Privacy Policy
SupperBoard is built around a simple idea: your cooking is yours. We designed the app so that your personal information stays on your device and in your own iCloud, not on our servers. This policy explains what that means in practice.
The short version
- We do not make you create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts, or location.
- Your recipes, grocery lists, taste profile, ratings, and cook history live on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. We cannot see them.
- Some features send recipe text to a processing service to do their job (importing a recipe, estimating nutrition, chatting with Le Sous Chef, finding a recipe photo). Each one is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it back off in Profile. We send only the content needed for that task, never who you are. Chatting with Le Sous Chef also sends your taste profile, including any allergies you have flagged, so they can cook around them.
- We do not use advertising, third-party analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking, and we do not sell your data.
What we collect
We do not collect personal information from you directly. SupperBoard has no login and no user accounts.
Content you create in the app (recipes, imported recipes, grocery lists, your taste and allergy preferences, ratings, notes, and cooking history) is stored locally on your device. If you are signed into iCloud, it also syncs through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to your other devices using your private iCloud account. This data is controlled by you and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to it.
One exception for now: the review you write after cooking a dish (whether you would cook it again, what worked, and any note or photo you add to that review) stays on the device where you wrote it and does not sync. The recipe's own rating, notes and cook count do sync.
When information leaves your device, and where it goes
A few features need to process text off-device. In each case we send only the content required for that feature:
- Importing a recipe from a website link, a TikTok or Instagram post, a photo, or a screenshot: the app sends the page text, caption, or the text read from your image so it can be cleaned into a recipe. A pasted TikTok link also goes straight to TikTok, to fetch that post's caption. If a TikTok or Instagram caption does not spell the recipe out, the app sends the creator's handle and the first part of the caption as well, so our AI provider can look for the creator's own recipe page.
- Estimating nutrition: the app sends the recipe's title, its ingredient list and the number of servings.
- Finding a recipe photo: if you turn on recipe photos, the app sends the dish name and the word "food" to Pexels, the free stock photo library, so it can return a picture and its photographer credit. No other part of the recipe goes with it, and no AI is involved. See Pexels' Privacy Policy.
- Le Sous Chef (chat): the app sends your message and, for context, the titles of your saved recipes, anything you have marked as already at home in your pantry, your taste profile, the budget you picked for new dishes (Thrifty, Everyday or Treat yourself), and, while you are cooking or when you ask them to work an ingredient into a recipe, that recipe's title, ingredients and steps. Your taste profile includes any allergies you have flagged, because the assistant has to know them to avoid suggesting something unsafe. This context is sent only to answer you. Our own service keeps none of it: we hold no record of your messages and write none of their content to our logs. Our AI provider retains it briefly for abuse monitoring under its standard terms, and does not use it to train its models.
This content is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our processing service (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards it to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the result. We send only this content. We do not send your name, email, location, contacts, device identifiers, or any advertising identifier.
This content is used solely to generate your result and return it to the app. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not shown to other users. Under our commercial agreement, our AI provider does not use content submitted through its API to train its models. These providers process the data on our behalf as service providers; see Anthropic's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Apple features you can choose to use
- Apple Health: If you tap to log a serving to Apple Health, the app writes nutrition data into your Health app. This is one-way. SupperBoard never reads your health data, and your Health information never comes to us. It stays in your Health account, governed by Apple.
- Reminders: If you send a grocery list to Apple Reminders, the app creates reminders in your own Reminders app. We do not receive them.
- Photos: If you import from a photo or screenshot, the image is used only to read the recipe text (which is then handled as described above). We do not keep your photos.
Payments
SupperBoard+ subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or handle your payment details. Apple provides us with aggregate, non-identifying sales information. Your purchase is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.
What we do not do
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell or rent your information, and we have no interest in doing so.
Data retention and deletion
Because your content lives on your device and in your own iCloud, you are in control of it:
- Delete an individual recipe or list inside the app at any time.
- Erase everything SupperBoard holds, from inside the app, in Profile under Start fresh. That clears your recipes and their photos, your lists, your taste profile and allergies, and your consent choices from this device, and deletes the copy kept in your own iCloud.
- Delete the app to remove its local data from that device.
- Manage or delete the app's iCloud data in Settings → [your name] → iCloud on your device.
The in-app erase reaches this device and the copy in your own iCloud. If your other devices are signed into the same iCloud account, they empty out the next time they open SupperBoard. It does not reach meals you already logged to Apple Health or grocery items you already sent to Apple Reminders, which you can delete in those apps, and it does not cancel a SupperBoard+ subscription, which belongs to your Apple ID and is managed in the App Store. A taste profile already saved on another device of yours stays on that device, so erase there too if you want it gone. The app lists all of this on screen before you confirm.
You can turn any of these off at any time inside the app, in Profile, under "AI and outside services". Nothing goes to an outside service until you switch one on, and switching one off stops the next send. It cannot pull back what has already been sent: our AI provider holds recent requests briefly for abuse monitoring under its standard terms, and Pexels only ever sees a dish name.
We do not hold your personal data on our own servers, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. If you have any question about this, email admin@gastronautlabs.com.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA (for example, to access, correct, or delete personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights). Because we do not collect or store personal information about you, there is generally nothing for us to access or delete. You are always welcome to contact us with a request or question at admin@gastronautlabs.com.
Children
SupperBoard is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will address it.
Security
Data sent off-device travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. Your content is stored on your device and, if enabled, in your private iCloud, protected by your device and Apple ID security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the revised version here with a new effective date. Material changes will be made clear.
